A Brief History

Crana College, a co-educational, interdenominational Vocational School under the aegis of
Co. Donegal Vocational Educational Committee (VEC), is situated in the town of Buncrana, a short distance from the border with Co. Derry. First established as a vocational school in 1925 Crana College has since evolved and developed into a second level school which offers a wide range of courses, programmes and subjects to all levels.

Throughout its history Crana College has been renowned for the quality of education provided to its students and has played an important role in the life of the people of South and West Inishowen.
In recent years Crana College is seen by the community as a provider of top grade education, catering for the needs of its comprehensive intake, achieving very high academic standards and providing opportunities for third level education. There has been a steady increase in enrolment over recent years and the number of students attending Crana College in September 2011 is 540.

Students come from approximately twelve feeder schools in the town and surrounding areas. The
extensive and varied curriculum on offer to pupils and the opportunities to sample new subjects before choosing to study them ensure that pupils can study subjects that suit their ability and interests, while the College’s pastoral system promotes a close working relationship and friendly personal contact between teachers, pupils and parents.

Committed to the highest standards of education, management and staff, together with the co-operation of the student body endeavour to create a calm, caring and creative environment where all pupils are given the best opportunities to develop their potential to the full, to acquire knowledge and to adopt a positive attitude towards work, life and their community.
